painting responses

i then produced these paintings, using the collages as references.

1) this piece (A2) is composed of images and acrylic paint, most of which has been applied via stencils. i was influenced by the work of robert rauschenberg, who often combines images and paint, and explores layering. i also found symbols from vanitas art were partly influential for this piece.

i was also interested in exploring mirror images - this was inspired by the design of classic playing cards - and using this to reflect the transition from childhood to adulthood, and eventually death.

2) for this piece i took a more abstract approach, influenced by artists such as auerbach.
